LONE VALLEY, GERMANY—New excavations in Vogelherd Cave by researchers from the University of Tübingen have unearthed an ivory head that has been fitted to a mammoth-ivory figurine discovered in 1931. The figurine is now recognizable as a lion. More than two dozen figurines and thousands of fragments of figurines have been recovered from the cave, including the famous "lion man."
