The 10-foot, rust-red, 4,000-year-old feline painted at Panther Cave rock shelter on the shores of Lake Amistad is one of the oldest examples of rock art in North America. Nearby Parida Cave has drawn tourists since the 19th century, when passengers on the transcontinental railroad often visited to see its ancient pictographs.
