MALIBU—The J. Paul Getty Museum will return a terracotta head of the Greek god Hades to Sicily. The museum acquired the sculpture from a collector in 1985, but it is believed that it was “clandestinely excavated” in the early 1970s from a sanctuary dedicated to Demeter and Persephone at the heavily looted site of Morgantina. Four fragments of terracotta found near Morgantina helped archaeologists to link the head to the site.
