EDIRNE, TURKEY—Kitchen utensils, including a huge spoon, dating from the Ottoman Empire have been uncovered during the restoration of Edirne Palace, where Sultan Mehmet II planned his conquest of Istanbul in 1453. Water distribution pools at the site are also under investigation. The palace was burned in 1878 by Cemil Pasha, the governor of Edirne, to keep its arsenal from falling into Russian hands.
