
CAIRO, EGYPT--Restoration of a First Dynasty funerary boat has begun at the Grand Egyptian Museum. Funerary boats were buried with royalty and were intended to carry their souls to the afterlife. This boat, buried with King Den, was unearthed by French archaeologists in the Abu Rawash area located to the northeast of Giza. It consists of 11 wooden planks and dates to 3000 B.C., according to Mohamed Ibrahim, Minister of State for Antiquities.
