ORKNEY, SCOTLAND—A second inscribed stone has been unearthed at the Ness of Brodgar, where archaeologists discovered a large complex of monumental Neolithic buildings in 2002. This second stone, decorated on two sides, was also found in Structure Ten, a monumental building surrounded by a massive wall. The designs of interconnecting triangles are similar to carvings found at Skara Brae and Maeshowe, but this stone from the Ness of Brodgar is said to be a “much finer and more complex piece of art.” The block was carefully removed from the soil and moved to a secured location.
