USAK, TURKEY—The Anadolu Agency reports that a stadium has been uncovered in western Turkey’s ancient site of Blaundos, a naturally fortified hilltop city founded as a garrison for Macedonian soldiers during Alexander the Great’s Anatolian campaigns. Serif Soyler of the Usak Museum said that a stepped entrance has been found at the front of the stadium, along with a terrace wall that stabilized the structure. “The stadium, constructed in the first century A.D., is relatively modest compared to other ancient cities, but it forms an essential part of Blaundos’ architectural ensemble,” Soyler explained. The excavation has also uncovered eight aqueducts and a Roman sewer line that ran along the city’s main street. For more on Blaundos, go to "Canyon of the Ancestors."
